Portfolio > Patchwork Migration

Part of my final year's project for my BFA (Painting and Sculpture). 2019.
Patchwork Migration: Journey of a Contemporary Nomad.

I am interested in emphasizing the changes to social systems that occur when moving globally. I create fabric with unsupported house paint to stress the feelings of dislocation and instability experienced with uprooted, whilst weaving acts as metaphor for the support networks that are necessary to feeling settled somewhere different.
I use warp and weft paint thread to highlight how the experience of these different places have entwined in the transitory stages before the new place can be called home.
The resulting artworks do not sit easily in any one genre, thereby mimicking my feelings of not quite belonging anywhere.
