Beyond the Expected

I create contemporary wall-based artworks that exist on the boundary between painting and sculpture, transforming familiar materials and processes into tactile, dimensional forms. Responding to changing light, each work reveals shifting depths, textures and perspectives.

My practice is driven by experimentation, with each work evolving through an ongoing inquiry into surface, structure, form and the experience of space.

Julee Latimer is a contemporary artist based in Melbourne, Australia. Her practice sits on the boundary between painting and sculpture, exploring the physical possibilities of materials through colour, form and sculptural depth. The resulting works are tactile, dimensional and deliberately resistant to conventional definitions of medium and surface.

Latimer holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Sculpture and Painting, as well as international qualifications in Interior Design and Colour Therapeutics. These disciplines inform her approach to colour, material and the relationship between artwork and space.

Prior to her current practice, Latimer established an international career as a sculptural mosaic artist and authored Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing, USA, 2017).

Her work is held in private, corporate and permanent collections, including Capella Sydney, Conrad Orchard Singapore and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Chicago. She has exhibited in Australia and internationally and has been selected as a finalist in several respected Australian art prizes.
